Are you bored sitting in the office? Do you dream of your diving vacation being more than just a holiday? Is now the time to start doing what you really love? If you like people, love diving, have a passion for travel and a thirst for adventure then it is time to start living your dreams!

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors are the most sought after dive pros in the scuba industry and your PADI Instructor certification is your ticket to adventure. You’ll be able to apply for jobs right here on Maui, or on the other side of the planet – the world truly becomes your oyster.

Becoming a PADI Instructor not only allows you to teach diving and share your passion, it enables you to make real differences to people’s lives.

From giving nervous beginners confidence, to teaching teenagers the value of responsibility, to empowering the differently abled, you’ll dive with people of all nationalities and ages, from all walks of life and you’ll bestow upon them one common gift – the gift of scuba diving and a passion for the underwater world. You earn a PADI Instructor rating through hard work and commitment, but you’re rewarded with a job that lets you share incredible underwater adventures with others – transforming their lives for the better and enriching yours.

What makes your Lahaina Divers IDC experience different?

Lots of things! But especially:

  • Diving! Yes, we will go diving during your IDC. Our open water presentations are conducted from our boat and as long as our work is done, we follow the presentations with a dive!
  • We include the EFR Instructor course & all of its materials. This is a tremendous extra value.
  • Since Lahaina Divers is a 100% PADI AWARE partner, our Course Director also does free with your IDC the Specialty instructor ratings for Dive Against Debris and AWARE Shark Conservation. These count towards your Master Scuba Diver Rating and are a great way to show future employers and students that you are serious about the environment and marine conservation.
  • If you are having trouble finding a place to stay here on Maui, we are very excited to be offering free accommodation during your IDC in our “IDC dorm” It is a shared accommodation and is available to the first four people that pay in full for their IDC.
  • Employment opportunities! Lahaina Divers will give people who train with us the first opportunity to fill vacant jobs with our company.
  • Internship opportunities and job placement. People completing their internship program with 4 time Platinum Course Director Tim Bradley have gone on to work in the Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia, Bonaire, the Cayman Islands, the US Virgin Islands, Hawaii, the Canary Islands, Raja Ampat, the Azores, the Philippines, and many other locations.

The IDC is not just a learning experience. You’ll develop a relationship with your Lahaina Divers Course Director and after the IDC, he is able to assist you to find employment and provide references. You’ll also make friends for life with your fellow candidates as you take this leap into a new career and new life together. It’s a life-changing experience you won’t forget – and it’s only the beginning.

What is the IDC?

IDC stands for Instructor Development Course and it is made up of two parts; Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor. Most candidates take both sections together followed by a PADI Instructor Exam (IE) to become fully-fledged PADI Instructors.

The IDC teaches you how to conduct all core PADI Courses from Open Water Diver through to Divemaster. You’ll learn the PADI Standards and Procedures and how to find information you need in the PADI Instructor Manual. There is eLearning, classroom sessions, meeting with PADI staff, confined water sessions in our pool, and open water sessions from our dive boat. You’ll also review:

  • How to think like an Instructor
  • PADI Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor

In addition to studying these key topics you’ll be reviewing your in-water skill demonstrations and learning how to deliver clear presentations for Confined Water and Open Water dives as well as for Knowledge Development presentations. Your confidence will grow and your in-water skills will become perfectly honed.
